Retsina of Mesogia
Located outside the capital of Greece in the wine zone region of Mesogaia (the historical centre of the Savatiano grape variety), Dimitris Georgas has been looking after the family vineyards for 20 years. The 6ha vineyard is certified organic and specialise in the Savatiano white vines, as well as practising some biodynamics. The climate is dry and temperate with sloping hills. The wines themselves are Retsina, the traditional wine of Greece, which have origins in ancient times when the amphoras were sealed with pine resin. Nowadays, resin from the Aleppo pine is added to the must during fermentation to produce the distinctive resinated style.
